Taj Calligraphy is the artistic vision of Tagalsir Hassan (Taj), a renowned Sudanese calligrapher and graphic designer celebrated for his ability to merge traditional Arabic calligraphy with contemporary design. With over four decades of expertise, Taj has shaped the calligraphy and design landscape in the UAE and beyond.

Born with a passion for Arabic script, Taj earned his Bachelor of Art (distinction) from the College of Fine and Applied Arts in Khartoum (1977) and later obtained a Master’s degree in Graphic Design from the Central School of Art and Design in London (1983). His deep knowledge and refined artistic techniques have positioned him among the most respected calligraphers in the Arab world.

Since 1989, Taj has been based in the UAE, where he has made a lasting impact on the development and appreciation of Arabic calligraphy. Over the years, he has worked with key institutions such as the Department of Culture in Sharjah, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development in Dubai, the Ministry of Education, and Al Bayan Printing and Publishing in Dubai, contributing his expertise to elevate the presence of Arabic calligraphy in public and cultural spaces.

Taj is a founding member and former editor of "Hroof Arabiya" magazine, a leading publication dedicated to Arabic calligraphy. He has served as International jury member for fine arts and calligraphy competitions across the UAE and GCC, reinforcing his influence as a mentor and expert in the field.

His artistic journey has taken him to prestigious exhibitions worldwide, starting with his first solo exhibition at Hilton Dubai in 1999. His work has been displayed at renowned venues like the Cultural Foundation (Abu Dhabi National Theatre), Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, University of Sharjah, Al Majlis Gallery and Green Art gallery in Dubai and several others galleries.

Taj's exceptional craftsmanship has earned him 17 prestigious awards in Arabic calligraphy competitions, including the (IRCICA) International Calligraphy Competition (Istanbul) - 1993, the 1st Prize calligraphy from the Sharjah International Art Biennial - 1995. The Award of Sharjah international Calligraphy Biennial- 2008, the Al Burda Award (received six times), added to honors from the Emirates Fine Arts Society in Sharjah, Cairo International Forum for Arabic Calligraphy, Al Azhar forum for Arabic calligraphy, Cairo.
